Join Us at Eventide Community in Sacramento

Welcome, and thank you for visiting our Eventide Community website. This site highlights the wide variety of our ministries, most notably our mission and service opportunities. Please learn more about our Community on this site, or come in for a visit. We would love to greet you and share with you our hope to help others in the most meaningful ways.

We believe that the door to peace and love is always open and so are the doors to Eventide. Our mission is simple…..”Mission!” Every Sunday night we gather around tables in a fellowship hall for a casual time of worship. Children and youth are welcome to participate. We hope that the informality of our time together creates the kind of community that we all seek. We are a family of faith who are there—really there for each other. Every Sunday we follow our service with a free Community meal and we are blessed that men and women without homes join us.

Whether a disaster happens in our neighborhood, nation or world, we seek to send a team to bring hope to people in the midst of tragedy. Through works of charity and opening our doors to listen and show love to others, we feel we are walking in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.

Our Mission IS Mission

Meet Pastor Jeanie

This week Pastor Jeanie talked about the overloading of information. In a time when anything and everything is just a click away how do we take a step back and focus on the principles of our faith?

While exploring the question of “What would Jesus do?” in today’s media crazed world, Pastor Jeanie also reflects on the changing state of family and community over the past few decades.

About Eventide Community in Sacramento

We are a welcoming, inclusive community of faith located in the Arden Park area of Sacramento. We welcome, learn from, and seek to inspire visitors in our worship. We share the Good News of God's love and acceptance revealed in the life of Jesus and reflected in relationships of love, respect, and equality. We celebrate with music, art, dance and drama and we meet in a casual setting of round tables (no pews). We encourage a sense of community and advocate care for one another.

Our doors are open to you.

We believe that the door to peace and love is always open and so are the doors to our church. Our goal is to be fully devoted to Jesus by opening our arms to those in search of the truth. We show God’s love and concern for every person at every opportunity. Through works of charity and opening our doors to listen and love, we feel that we are walking in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.

Our Mission IS Mission!

One of the great strengths of Eventide Community is our connection to local, national and global mission. We work in close association with our mission ministry Disaster Response Ministries, a new mission-based ministry in Sacramento that partners with Presbytery of Sacramento, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, Council of Protestant Churches of Nicaragua (CEPAD), and other Presbyterian partners throughout Northern California, the United States, and the World. This collaborative approach to mission enables our mission teams to witness to the healing power of Christ’s love through caring for communities adversely affected by crises and catastrophic events. Let us know if you'd like to help in a local soup kitchen, rebuild homes and lives across the country or even if you'd like to volunteer overseas. Please help us serve others by giving a generous donation to our mission efforts. In addition, please join us in prayer for victims of disaster and hardship everywhere.

Worship Gathering

In ancient days, communities of people would gather to worship, study and care for one another and their community. Today, we gather Sunday at Eventide to worship, meditate, and study together; to care for each other and the world; to be deepened with music and art; to share the nourishment of a simple meal; and to claim the love and justice of Jesus Christ. We gather to serve in our community, our nation and the world.

Welcome

We extend open arms and welcome Boomers, Gen-Xers, Millennials, and Perennials. We welcome you if you choose humans over smart phones and iPads, or are a technophile, video gamer, Facebooked, Instagrammer or a Snap Chatter.

We welcome Kings Fans, Soccer Moms, Dads caught up in March Madness, and Fantasy Football players. You can be a Rocker, a Rapper or a Hip-Hopper, and you’re welcome here. We welcome Carnivores, Herbivores, Bikers, Hikers, Pedalers and Couch Surfers.

We get that people are diverse and welcome you no matter your color, able or disabled, tattooed or pierced, up on life or down in the dumps. We welcome those who are in recovery, still addicted or have never ever touched the stuff.

We welcome you if you don’t like “organized religion” or if you only went to church because your parents made you go as a kid. You’re also welcome if you made a wrong turn and got here by mistake, or if your grandma is in town and wants to go to church.

If you lost all your offering money playing poker, you’re still welcome here. We offer welcome to those who work too hard, don’t work at all or don’t have a place to call home.

If you can use a prayer right now, we have a special welcome for you. Our doors are open to seekers and doubters, bleeding hearts, and especially, you!

Time with our Children

We know that children have an amazing ability to share and communicate. Just as we learn how to be family by sharing family experiences and traditions, we build our worshiping community by including children – in the telling of stories and in helping them understand and share. At Eventide, the children are invited to participate by reading scripture, playing music, and performing in dramatic or playful reenactments. It’s okay if they need to giggle and wiggle, and we make sure they know that we always welcome their questions, interests, thoughts and prayers. Our “Children’s Time” invites kids to join the pastor to explore the meaning of scripture and to glean inspiration to pass it on. We value children and their potential, and know that we can also learn from them.

Weddings and Baptisms

A Christian marriage is a covenant between two individuals and their relationship with God. Traditional or contemporary, your wedding should be a reflection of what is most important to each of you. We welcome the privilege of sharing your testament to one another and to your faith. If you would like to plan or discuss a wedding, contact Pastor Jeanie at revjeanshaw@yahoo.com

Whether for infants, children, youth or adults, the act of baptism affirms a commitment of faith, acceptance of Christ’s church, and a desire to receive the grace and forgiveness of God. We embrace the opportunity to share this blessing with you. If you would like to plan or discuss a baptism, contact Pastor Jeanie at (916) 882-4047 or email her at info@eventidecommunity.org
